Back before the Covid-19 Pandemic put a shortage on the world’s TP supply. Our family had been in the process of using a conservation method called Family Cloth.
Family Cloth is basically rinsing after using the Loo and then drying off with cloth afterwards. Some people purchase cloth specifically for this process. Others make their own or recycle fabric to reuse.
Our family’s method is quite simple and requires little to no money spent.
- Gather several soft and absorbable old T-Shirts as these materials won’t fray and require no sewing.
- Cut T-Shirt material into 3”- 4” squares, keeping in mind that the edges will roll up and become a bit smaller than originally cut.
- Designate a small waste bin that fits conveniently next to toilet.
- Line small waste bin with zippered mesh to dispose used rags in.
- Only use cloth rags for drying yourself off after using the toilet. You may want to install a bidet or sprayer just for rinsing yourself.
- When waste bin is full, zip up mesh liner/bag and toss into wash with disinfectant detergent of choice. Dry also while still in mesh bag to keep cloth rags well contained during each wash & dry cycle.
